Bluebox Invited to Present its New aIFE Platform at APEX TECH 2018

14th December, 2017

David Brown to join APEX TECH session addressing the importance of implementing accessible IFE

Hot on the heels of the launch of Bluebox aIFE – the company’s latest game-changing IFE innovation – Bluebox was invited to participate in a session at the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) technology conference in January 2018 in California. David Brown, who is Bluebox’s Director Business Development, will demonstrate aIFE and discuss its development and value as a cost-effective way to rapidly deploy accessible IFE for passengers with sight loss.

Bluebox has been a contributor to APEX’s IFE Accessibility Working Group (ACCESSWG), and launched aIFE in November 2017 – in conjunction with Virgin Atlantic, who were partners in the development and deployed the system across their fleet on 1 December 2017. This made Virgin Atlantic the first airline to make IFE accessible for passengers with sight loss across an entire global fleet.

The session in which David will participate is on the 2nd day of the conference and entitled: Accessible IFE Interface for the blind. The session outline is:

In the Final Resolution of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) ACCESS Advisory Committee, organized in April 2016 and ending its work in November 2016, the DOT called for the establishment of an Accessible Interface Task Force with the directive to “…develop and submit any consensus recommendations of proposed specifications for an accessible user interface for new IFEC systems … offered on newly delivered aircraft. Organized by APEX, the Task Force brought together representatives from the advocacy community—including the American Council of the Blind—airlines, and subject matter experts—including the National Center for Accessible Media (NCAM), that worked through 2017, ultimately delivering recommendations to DOT on November 15, 2017. Anthony Stephens of the American Council of the Blind joins other members of the Task Force to discuss their recommendations, and the importance of airline implementation.
